Legal and Technology Assistant (0,4 FTE)
The Legal and Technology Assistant will support the Legal and Technology Counsel at the Leiden Learning and Innovation Centre (LLInC), Leiden University. You will collaborate and participate in negotiations with various stakeholders at Leiden University, affiliated partners and third parties. Together with an innovative interdisciplinary team, the Legal and Technology Assistant will deal with relevant legal issues in the fields of intellectual property, privacy, data protection, IT and other legal issues related to digital technologies. This position bridges research and legal practice and requires the candidate to be comfortable in both areas.
We would like the selected candidate to start as soon as possible or January 2025 at the latest joining LLInC until the end of the academic year 2024-2025.
Key responsibilities
• Researching about disruptive technologies’ legal issues, such as eXtended Reality (XR), artificial intelligence, and open education.
• Support the Data Responsibility team in updating and monitoring legal developments in the areas of technology law, intellectual property (IP) and data protection relevant to the organisation.
• Drafting and reviewing contracts ranging from IP, technology law, data protection, terms and conditions, licence agreements and contract templates.
Selection criteria
• Leiden University student pursuing a Master’s degree in law (LLM), preferably (but not excluding) in the area of law and digital technologies.
• Excellent writing and editing skills in English.
• Preferably some relevant work, either as in-house legal counsel or within a law firm, or research experience on the fields of intellectual property, digital law and data protection.
• Familiarity with trends in digital innovation.
• Team player and collaborative thinker that can work well with multiple stakeholders.
• Comfortable working independently.
• Ability to prioritise work when facing tight deadlines.
• Able to attend meetings online and in person (both in Leiden and The Hague).

The employment contract is in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities. For Master’s students, the student assistant salary is €2.951 gross per month for a full-time appointment. The position is for 16 hours per week with immediate effect until the end of the Academic Year 2024/2025.
LLInC has office space in The Hague and Leiden, but it is also possible to partly work from home.
In addition, Leiden University has good employment conditions, including an end-of-year bonus (8.3%) and holiday allowance (8%), paid parental leave, and abundant holiday hours.
